Accommodation

The search for accommodation, whether in university residences of the University of Porto or in private accommodation is up to the student. Here we identify some entities that offer accommodation in Porto specifically for higher education students. The School only intends to facilitate the access of its students to this information, not assuming any responsibility arising from any contacts that its students may have with these entities.

University Residence

The University of Porto has 9 university residences and 2 studios for the accommodation of its students, with priority being given to scholarship holders covered by the Scholarship System who, due to distance or difficulty of transport, cannot reside with the family during the school year.
Applications are made after enrolment, through the U.Porto Social Action Services

Private accommodation

FEP has established partnerships with some entities with advantageous conditions for students of the School.

DGES scholarships

Scholarships are granted in accordance with the Rules for the Awarding of Scholarships to Students in Higher Education.

FEP Study Grant

FEP, through philanthropic funds and in coordination with the Social Support Services of the University of Porto (SASUP), offers Study Grants to students facing financial difficulties, whose per capita income exceeds 23 IAS and is equal to or below 28 IAS. Solidarity scholarships

AAAFEP, in the framework of its partnership with FEP, AEFEP and SASUP, has launched a Solidarity Programme which aims to financially support underprivileged students of the Economics or Business Administration Degrees of FEP. This support consists of an annual subsidy equal to the amount of the approved tuition fee for the respective school year.

Social Action Plan (PAS)

It’s a FEP’s Students Union’s programme that has the objective to support scholarship students or students with economic difficulties, by offering AEFEP’s discount card – the AIÉ card – which includes discounts at the bar, on AEFEP products and services, at the Printing House, as well as offering meals, the payment of a limited number of improvements, among other benefits that make these students’ journey through the university easier.
The registration for this plan can be made throughout the academic year.

APIFARMA University Merit Scholarship

The APIFARMA University Merit Scholarship was created by APIFARMA and has the institutional collaboration of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities (CRUP). The scholarship aims to promote equal opportunities in access to higher education for students with academic merit and financial need. The target audience for the APIFARMA University Merit Scholarship is Portuguese students who are enrolling in public education for the first time and who remain there for the entire cycle of studies, i.e., bachelor’s and/or integrated master’s degree. Ten scholarships, worth €6000 euros each, will be awarded to eligible candidates each academic year.

Gulbenkian Mérito Scolarships

The Gulbenkian Mérito Scolarships are designed to support young people with high potential who are applying to higher education for the first time and who have scarce economic resources. The scholarship is worth €2000 per academic year and includes a one-off additional support for a period of international mobility, Erasmus or other similar programme offered by each educational institution, worth €2000.

U.Porto Card

The U.Porto Card is the ‘identity card’ of all members of the University of Porto. With it, you have privileged access to a wide range of exclusive advantages in services/initiatives promoted by the University and partner institutions.

This card is free and essential for accessing the various resources at your school, and it offers exclusive advantages due to the partnership with Caixa Geral de Depósitos. If you choose the banking option, you’ll have access to numerous benefits and can use this card to top up your account.

When and where can I apply for the card?
To apply for the card, you should go to the Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) stand, which will be at the FEP from 17 to 23 September 2025.

What is required?
When you go to the Caixa Geral de Depósitos stand, you should bring the following documents (according to the procedure indicated by CGD):

  • Identification document (e.g. Citizen’s Card)
  • FEP enrolment form
  • Proof of address (e.g. registration payment slip, car insurance green card, property registration deed or bank account statement) if you want the card to also work with a banking component (more information on the advantages of the banking component, as well as the Caixa IU and Caixa ISIC partners, can be found HERE).

Transport

To request the registration declaration for renewal of the SUB23 pass, please access the website of ‘Transportes Intermodais do Porto’.
On this page you must indicate the University of Porto, perform the required federated authentication – through the access to the SIGARRA system, and then indicate your ANDANTE number or the mobile phone number associated with the App ” Anda”.
The TIP system is integrated with SIGARRA, sending the necessary data for the Sub23 Declaration, which should be digitally signed in the Digidoc platform.
